Those are very cool, but we wanted to introduce more flexibility,” said Pei Dong from Rice University.“We wanted a biomimetic material that could change itself, or its inner structure, to adapt to external stimulation and thought introducing more liquid would be a way. But we wanted the liquid to be stable instead of flowing everywhere,” said Dong.In SAC, tiny spheres of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) encapsulate much of the liquid. The viscous polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) further coats the entire surface. The spheres are extremely resilient as their thin shells deform easily.Their liquid contents enhance their viscoelasticity, a measure of their ability to absorb the strain and return to their original state, while the coatings keep the spheres together. 

The spheres also have the freedom to slide past each other when compressed, but remain attached.“The sample does not give you the impression that it contains any liquid. That is very different from a gel,” said Lou.“This is not really squishy; it is more like a sugar cube that you can compress quite a lot. The nice thing is that it recovers,” Lou added.Making SAC is simple, and the process can be tuned - a little more liquid or a little more solid - to regulate the product’s mechanical behaviour, researchers said.The polymer components begin as powder and viscous liquid. With the addition of a solvent and controlled heating, the PDMS stabilises into solid spheres that provide the reconfigurable internal structure.In tests, scientists found a maximum of 683 per cent increase in the material’s storage modulus — a size-independent parametre used to characterise self-stiffening behaviour. This is much larger than that reported for solid composites and other materials, researchers said. The findings were published in the journal ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces.

Without giving investment details, Reliance in its latest annual report said it has developed capabilities for 3D printing of wide-range of plastic and metals products.Reliance is developing new business verticals in the petrochemicals business to capture Rs 30,000 crore composites market and has plans to produce graphene, enhanced plastics and elastomers, fibre reinforced composites which can replace steel. A composite is an engineered material made from two or more ingredients with significantly differing properties, either physical or chemical.One of the most common forms of composite in use today is carbon fibre. It is made by heating lengths of rayon, pitch or other types of fibre to extremely high temperatures in an oxygen-deprived oven. The resultant rayon strands are spun into a thread, then woven into sheets and mixed with hardening resins to form the various components needed."RIL is investing in Indias first and largest carbon fibre production line with its own technology - to cater to Indias aerospace and defence needs as well as the specialty industrial applications," it said.

The crippling effect of the currency demonetisation not only broke the back of the livestock food market, but has left many labourers jobless. The business saw a dip of 80 per cent in the last few days leaving thousands of wholesale traders and suppliers sleepless overnight.“The poultry business has been severely hit by the recent move of the government. There are only few takers now. Usually, where the daily average of the inflow of trucks carrying live stock used to be around 120-140 trucks a day, on Friday, we managed to get about 70-80 trucks only. Business has dipped invariably with the sale touching an all time low,” pointed Zameel Ahmed, a wholesale poultry agent.  He further added, “The situation is grim as chicken livestock is not being sold and this is adversely affecting the hen. Once they are out of the poultry farms, on a daily basis they tend to reduce around 100 grams of weight. Now, with this move of the government, the stock is being piled-up with no takers.”

There is an all time decrease in the sale and no money in hand to give to the labourers. It is probably one of the worst times for us.” According to a functionary officer, the revenue has seen a new low in the past many years. “With most of the transactions being made by cash, the suppliers and wholesale dealers are hit by this move.”                    

The report stated that television channels should be allowed to run Indian films as per clause 7.2 (ii) of License Establish & Operate Satellite TV Broadcast Channel Station.Advocate Taffazul Rizvi, counsel for petitioner, argued in the court that the channels should also be allowed to broadcast Indian plays as they also fall within the definition of entertainment under the licence agreement with the PEMRA.PEMRA law officer contested the argument seeking time to establish that the entertainment does not include Indian plays.He said the channels were allowed to run Indian films as per terms of their licence agreements with PEMRA.PEMRA in its October 2016 order had banned Pakistani private channels being operated through cable network from airing the Indian content.The petition filed said the order was a violation of PEMRA rules and the Constitution.The petitioner said in 2010 he had been granted a 15-year licence by PEMRA to operate a cable channel - Filmazia -  and under the licence it was allowed to broadcast 10 per cent of foreign content including Indian."
